A giant pit in my stomach

I knew this was coming, but when it came, it was no less of a blow.  Paul Loughran, a Clicker who has been around a few years, running our support teams in Dublin, has passed away.  It was a multi-year battle with cancer, but this recent return was just too much.  Paul was a quiet, and really nice guy, with a wife and 3 kids, his youngest having just turned 1.  I was in Dublin a few years back for our annual services audit, and despite having been out sick for months, Paul insisted on coming into the office to meet with the auditor and be a part of the team and process.  That was just the kind of guy he was.  Quiet, unassuming, but totally focused on the work being top-notch.  He was a supportive people manager and a good collaborator from across the globe – it was hard to find anyone who just plain ‘ol didn’t like working with Paul.. I flat-out liked Paul.

A funeral is being held this week and there’s work underway for some sort of education fund, I’ll post that as soon as I get any details.

Rest in peace Paul.

West coast reunion !?!?

I had lunch with Neal Mohan yesterday and a great idea was discussed, a west-coast reunion!  I’d love to get a sense if others would be interested.. fill this out:

A shop in my backyard!

As I mentioned a while back, Permuto is down the road from me and headed up by Navdeep – a name recognized by many.  A headhunter pinged me today for some roles they are hiring for.. not a fit for me 😉  but I said I’d post it here.. feels like the right thing to do.

Director E. Coast Sales (player/coach role) and a Reg Sales Mgr (individual contributor role) – both in NYC – for Permuto (www.permuto.com) – a hot new early-stage company focused on developing a next generation online advertising platform focused on the $205B+ online e-commerce shopping market.

Permuto launched in Sept, 2009 and is lead by an experienced world-class management team formerly from Yahoo!, Doubleclick, Oracle, and Microsoft, who have helped build a fast growing, entrepreneurial organization that prides itself on innovation, intelligence, and world-class technology. Recently named among “The World’s Most Intriguing Startups” by BusinessWeek, Permuto currently has 65 million unique users in their network – and growing! They signed up 12 new customers last quarter alone, as they strive to bring the same level of reach, performance, and measurability of SEM to the world of display advertising.

Permuto has developed a proprietary method to accurately track and determine an online consumer’s shopping in-market score for millions of products, utilizing a vast network of data partners. Their “PartnerConnect” enables data partners to extract value from their data as well as tap into the power of the their network to power personalization, targeting, and other data driven applications. Permuto’s Best Offer shopping ad network delivers highly relevant micro-targeted product display ads driven by a consumers shopping in market score. The creation of this Best Offer network provides merchants and manufacturers a new channel to tap into the 80%+ reach of online display advertising greatly enhanced conversions.

Permuto has also developed an online shopping data co-op for online merchants and retailers to go after the vast market of online shoppers who have never even visited their site. This co-op will join hundreds of multi-channel retailers. There is only one other company currently in this online shopping data co-op space, however they do not provide a full end-to-end solution. Permuto provides an in-depth analysis of the users to determine which ones are buyers and which ones are just browsers. They also host, serve and manage the ads (end-to-end turnkey solution for online retailers to gain new customers).

Due to growth, Permuto is looking for both an E. Coast Dir Sales and a Reg Sales Mgr (who will report to the Director) in NYC to drive the sale of their ecommerce/retargeting and co-op solutions to the top 500 internet retailers nationwide (and through agencies). This performance-based online advertising company is looking for smart, hungry, driven, ambitious, independent salespeople with a passion for success. Tremendous ground-floor opportunity to be part of a company that brings the performance of search marketing and the reach of display advertising to its clients in online retail and beyond.
Comp. up to $175K base (depending upon experience) + lucrative commission structure + equity. MUST HAVES:

– 5+ years online media sales experience (online display adverting, behavioral targeting, retargeting, SEM, performance based marketing, ad network, etc), with particular focus selling to online retailers

– Passionate about selling and creating value for customers, and a deep understanding of marketing demographics, media buying, and client ROI

– Strong NYC agency contacts

– Hungry, driven, true HUNTER (no fear of cold calling), self-motivated, smart, independent, aggressive, high energy, go-getter, results-oriented, and able to handle the pace of a high-growth startup

Qualified candidates, please ping Staci King.

Crosspost: Counting Discrepancies

Real good post from our friends at Catchpoint.. These, seemingly, innocous JS/Script SRC files give other people a look at your customers, but can add a healthy performance hit as well…

Be the last to know!

Ari Paparo has left Google for Nielsen! It’s tricky to confirm, I did a search on Nielsen.com and there’s no mention of Ari – for shame!  No press releases or anything.. thankfully, a tweet tells it all.  However, I saw him in AdAge this AM and in tons of on-line rags  Since DoubleClick paid for that head shot, we should Nielsen an invoice.. Congrats on the new gig Ari.

Finding the Best with KO

KO, yes that KO is back in business.  Not a book on surfing, but a real business.  He did an interview recently about his new venture, FindtheBest.

I did a little test and used their site to look up Blog Software.  I use WP (wordpress), which is great.. and KO nailed it – that’s their top pick 🙂

A musical acquisition over at MTV

Apparently, Ukelele master (maestro?) Rick Bruner, is going to turn hip-hop and current music trends on their ear.  He’ll be heading over to MTV Networks, as VP of Digital Ad Research.  I fully expect Jersey Shore to add in a Ukulele player next season, and “The Real World” will likely follow the trials and tribulations of Rick’s cats..  this is unconfirmed, the PR people at MTV keep replying to my emails with, “Who is Rick Bruner and what is a Ukulele?”
